India in your face

Filed under: India — Benedikt @ 10:44 am

Being at the ghats in Varanasi was the most impressive experience that I made in India. All these people praying, bathing and meditating results in a very unique atmosphere that is a must-see when being in India. I just sat at the ghats for hours and hours, sipping chai and watching people at this tranquil but still bustling place.

The video below gives you a (short) idea of what to expect there. I took it on a boat trip on Ganges early in the morning when all Indians took their traditional baths. BTW: the background music was really blarring out of speakers when I was there, I didn’t add anything.

You can also find pictures of Varanasi in my photo section (I was so fascinated, that I couldn’t stop taking), you find a selection below:

Hugo Mouse

I am the opposite of a communist and I have no milligram of sympathy for Hugo Chavez, I therefore couldn’t resist to post this little gem. That photographer is a genius!

Hey Mickey, you’re scaring the children! :-D

the coffee addict

Filed under: USA, food & drink — Benedikt @ 8:27 pm

Winter lives in Texas, he likes coffee and back in ‘97 he decided to do something unique. So, what would would the closest unique endeavor be, that jumps into an American coffee-addicted mind? Yes! Visit all Starbucks shops around the planet! That was Winter’s mission for the last 11 years, and he isn’t nearly finished yet.

Until now he has visited 7′174 American Starbucks stores, as well as 457 in the rest of the world. With the current speed that Starbucks shops are mushrooming all over the world, he will probably have to hurry up dramatically to finish his mission in a livetime. Otherwise, he’ll have to make sure that those pricey coffee temples go bankrupt alltogether, which doesn’t seem to be very likely, looking at Starbuck’s current success.

Winter’s interesting approach to travelling has been documented on his website. Pictures of the Starbucks that he has visited can be found at the bottom of his site.

the other wheel

Filed under: India — Benedikt @ 10:06 pm

Singapore recently built the largest ferris wheel in the world. In contrast, on Chowpatti Beach in Mumbai, there may be the craziest ferris wheel of the world. The Mumbai wheel has no engine and is 100% human powered(!!!). The video below shows you how it works… I absolutely had to try that thing. The fare cost a ridiculous 5 rupees and the ride was rocky but surprisingly fast. I’d defenitely use it again…

…if I dug a hole…

Filed under: nerd moment — Benedikt @ 9:23 pm

Have you ever wondered where you would end up, if you dug a hole and kept digging until you saw the light again? I did when I was young, and I still find it kind of fun. Thanks to our good friend, the internet, it is no longer necessary just to think of it. Now you can just go to this website and see exactly where you would end up. There’s even professionally sounding name for this innocent little thought, it’s called Antipodes.
